Below is a letter we received today… With tears of gratitude and loads of laughter, we felt compelled to share it with you. Enjoy.
Good morning to all at Rims & Goggles,
25 years ago, my then employer, an optometrist, purchased a Rims and Goggles T shirt for me whilst on a trip to San Francisco. The T shirt quickly became a staple in my summer rotation of Tshirts, each year remaining, as others came and went, each year increasing in comfort and wearability. Despite having left the optical industry many years ago, Rims & Goggles, as the shirt became known, returned each year, comfortable and familiar.
This T shirt has been travelled in, renovated in, slept in, worked in, very much lived in, my “go to” T shirt! It has endured a marriage and watched 3 children grow to adulthood, although it is for their sake that I finally, though very much reluctantly must bid my Rims and Goggles T shirt goodbye. It’s bareness of thread, possibly not conveyed through the attached photos, has caused it to become more “lingerie like” in appearance increasingly causing offence to my wife and children. To our constant amazement it continued to survive the “lottery” that is the washing machine, each time expected to be it’s last, each time defying the very laws of fabric until recently when it’s wafer like consistency has began to succumb.
I felt compelled to write and let you know of the journey that one of your T shirts and indeed your name, has taken, the talking point it has been, the link to my first job 25 years ago. Who would have thought that your name on a T shirt would become so iconic in someone’s life.
Fortunately, my loss will be my wife’s gain as for many years she has admired it’s properties as a future duster. Perhaps from time to time, I’ll slip into the cleaning cupboard and try on Rims & Goggles and think fondly of the good times.
